Community Partnerships
GrowNYC, a leading environmental non-profit in New York City, has been an invaluable partner over the years. We source much of our produce and grains from their local farm partners, and our baked goods are sold at the McCarren Park Greenmarket in Williamsburg. GrowNYC works to build thriving local food systems and support communities throughout the five boroughs.
Community Help in Park Slope (CHiPS) supports women and children through food and housing security programs. We have been proud partners of CHiPS since our opening, collaborating in a variety of ways over the years. We donate all leftover bread to the CHiPS food pantry and have partnered with “CHiPS Night Out” to donate a portion of our revenue to the non-profit. Peter Endriss, one of our co-founders, now serves as their Executive Director.
Peter and the Runner & Stone bakers have been baking with regional grains since we started selling bread at markets in 2012. Since then, Runner & Stone has been happy to bake for various Regional Grain Project events throughout the year, including the Northeast Organic Farming Association, and the Maine Kneading Conference. We have participated in various studies evaluating the marketability and sustainability of using local grains in commercial bakeries and continue to work closely with GrownNYC to innovate on how to support the regional grain economy though bread and pasta production at Runner & Stone.
We were honored to receive the Slow Food Snail of Approval for our contributions to the quality, authenticity and sustainability of the food supply of the City of New York. We've also been the host of SlowFood NYC's bi-monthly Happy Hour, the Slur, and provided the food for the recent SlowFood Triathlon - Run, Yoga, Eat!
Local Businesses & Schools
Runner & Stone is proud to provide local businesses in Brooklyn and Manhattan with hand-crafted food for their patrons. Our participation in fundraising events has been a true highlight for us since opening and a wonderful way for our staff to get involved in the community.
